Tyler McEwen is the founder and director of Athene Legal. He leads every matter the firm takes on and is the point of contact for the firm’s clients.
He is regulated by the Costs Lawyer Standards Board and admitted as a member of the Association of Costs Lawyers. He was awarded the Association of Costs Lawyers Cup by the Senior Costs Judge, Master Gordon-Saker. He is also a member of the International Institute of Legal Project Managers.
His early career was spent at one of the leading costs practices in the country, where he worked on some of the largest costs matters in England and Wales. The work included group litigation involving hundreds and sometimes thousands of claimants and international matters with costs running into eight figures.
He also spent two years as a Legal Project Manager at DLA Piper, working across the firm’s UK, US, Dubai, Netherlands and Italy offices. The role involved managing large, complex litigation and arbitration projects, including a nine-figure construction arbitration and a banking group litigation involving several hundred claimants.
As a costs draftsman, Tyler describes himself as a thinker more than a fighter. His approach to costs work is built on the same principle. Successful outcomes come from strategic thinking, clear judgement and reading a case correctly. He usually advises clients to take sensible positions rather than overly aggressive ones, and to choose the ground worth contesting.
Clients value his responsiveness, willingness to discuss matters without generating a bill, and the fact that he personally leads the work involved.
